God is our Provider & Sustainer
Matthew 6:11 (NLT)
Give us today the food we need
Living in a culture where independence is praised and depending on someone is risky, it’s not always easy to fully give God our trust and lean into Him to be our main Provider and Sustainer.
It’s easy to trust God and proclaim Him to be our Provider when we have more than enough in our bank accounts, food on the table, and air conditioner in our homes. It’s easy to trust God and proclaim Him to be our Provider when our anxieties are quiet, phone calls are filled with great news, test results came back great, and we don’t have any missing assignments.
But in moments when things don’t go our way, when our days are filled with uncertainties, our heart starts racing, and the negative voices in our head gets louder and louder, it’s not easy to fully trust God and proclaim Him as our Provider and Sustainer.
That’s why prayer is so important. That’s why Jesus teaches us how to pray in moments when our days are great and in moments when our days are hard. Because prayer shifts the way we see ourselves and our situations. Prayer shifts our attention to God, helping us to step back, breath, and realign our heart and our mind to Him.
So, when we pray, “Give us today the food we need” we are proclaiming that God will provide all of our needs, even if our situation makes it hard to believe. Like how God provided daily manna or daily bread for the Israelites when they were in the wilderness, hungry, exhausted, and hopeless, God will provide and meet your needs beyond your expectations. When we allow Him to be our main Provider and Sustainer, He will continue to show up like how He did for the Israelites and nourish us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
So here’s a challenge for you today:
Find a moment today and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the areas you are trusting God as your Provider and areas that you’re holding onto and trusting on your own strength and will.
Listen to the suggested songs below and take a moment to pray — thanking God for being your Provider in the areas you fully trust Him in, and seeking for forgiveness and transformation in the areas where it’s harder to fully trust Him as your Provider.
If you have kids, invite them into the process, and share and pray together as a family.
