Kingdom come
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He didn't begin with their needs. He began with God and His kingdom. Before asking for daily bread, forgiveness, or protection, Jesus invited them to align their hearts with the Father's heart…to seek His will above all else.
Praying, "Your kingdom come," is more than hoping Jesus returns one day. It's an invitation for His love, truth, justice, and peace to shape us, our homes, our friendships, our workplaces, and our communities. We are asking God to make what is true in heaven visible here on earth because His Kingdom is a whole-life response.
As God transforms us, we have the opportunity to bring glimpses of His kingdom to the people around us. A kind word to someone who's hurting, praying for a friend, serving, or choosing honesty when it's difficult may seem ordinary, but these moments reflect the heart of King Jesus and point others to Him.
But this prayer isn’t passive. By praying, “your will be done,” we’re surrendering our will. We’re laying down our preferences and desires, inviting Jesus to rule and reign over every area of our life. Wherever King Jesus is welcomed, His kingdom is displayed.
The more we know Jesus, the more we begin to want what He wants and love what He loves.
Every day presents opportunities to choose God's kingdom over our own. We can choose forgiveness over bitterness, generosity over selfishness, humility over pride, and obedience over comfort. These seemingly small decisions become powerful ways God's kingdom is displayed through us.
At home activity
Spend time in prayer. Ask the Lord to examine your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). What are the areas of your life you're holding tightly to your own plans, preferences, or desires instead of surrendering them to Jesus?
As you pray "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done," ask the Holy Spirit to teach you to live fully surrendered. Then take one step of obedience today, trusting that wherever Jesus reigns, His Kingdom is displayed.
